No-contact Basic Aikido Techniques #1 - Ikkyo, Nikkyo, Sankyo, Yonkyo With Jo
Many Aikido schools are planning for phased options during the progress of the COVID19 pandemic, and are looking for training options in between "solo practice" and "full-contact regular keiko." This video shows our exploration of basic, relatively standard Aikido techniques performed with no direct physical contact between uke and nage, by only allowing contact at different ends of a jo (staff). For this video, the "nage" half of the staff has been marked with red tape, to help maintain some level of social distancing. This enables physical training with ukemi and exploration of principles of offbalancing, distance, timing, position, and blending - and combined with masks, constant hand ...

This clip explores sumi-otoshi (corner throw) using two swords versus 1 attacking sword, and a "triangle" (sankaku) bind. We were exploring it really for the fun of throwing, and as a way to explore Aikido techniques using weapons instead of physical hand-to-hand contact. It's not really meant to be realistic, but if you end up in that position, who knows? Sensei: Guy Hagen Uke: Patrick Morse T...
Aiki Lab: Making Yonkyo Ura Look Easy

This video was the result of a request by students to repeat a demonstration for making yonkyo ura (rear forearm pressurepoint pin) seem effortless, during a regular Adult Aikido class in March 2019. This demonstration focuses on proper positioning and offbalancing to multiply the power of the technique, rather than focusing on precision yonkyo. Instructor Guy Hagen; uke (a very patient) Dan Wa...

Short Clip: Ikkyo Kotegaeshi Combo

This clip shows a common follow-up technique to (cross wrist-grab) ikkyo. The practice is that Uke attempts to resist Nage's ikkyo technique; instead of finessing or overpowering that resistance, Nage executes a second technique in the direction of Uke's resistance - preferably timed to the exact moment of Uke's counter-effort. According to Saotome Sensei, Ikkyo (first principle) and Kotegaeshi...

Sword Kata Freestyle: ASU Kumitachi #1
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.4 года назад
"Kata" is the opposite of "freestyle", right? Unfortunately, if kata is learned as rote choreography, it often lacks meaning and depth; the practitioner can learn to make the moves more confident and sharp, but will never build an understanding of "why" each step in the kata is the way it is. This video shares some of our training in how to explore kata by adding improvisation, adding intent to...

Oh man, I don't want to seem to be overly criticising. What you show is definitely true and worthwhile to explore. One can provoke any kind of muscle reflex or balance reflex when you're fast enough. And one can train for years to exploit this. And one can get really good at it. BUT... This demonstration is totally static. The attacker is trying to hold the middle while not attacking the defender's middle. If you meet someone who is going straight for your throat, right down the middle, with intent, he will release the force of the arm and relax, follow up with an elbow. If you try to move the elbow out of the way, the shoulder will follow, and then the head and teeth! Still aimed at your throat. Be aware that some martial arts (including Aikido I believe) try to keep the center line. As a point of note, I am not talking about any sort of dynamic disruption of the attacker's balance (kuzushi). While the attacker AND the defender may have a very good body posture, the attack may come straight through the middle. And then the game becomes a very fluid play of chess. Good luck trying to provoke an overcorrection reflex.
Aikido: Do, or do 🚫; there is Only TRY! 🥋☯️
I've just discover this channel. Great content, very well presented. Thanks for sharing.
Aren't there attacks that sometimes aim for the foot or some area near the foot?
GREAT JOB!! Thanks for sharing this.
💕💖💗❤️💝
The music obscures the verbal gems of nage when talking...not the narrator...great principle
Just...why the annoying guitar music??? Great video otherwise
🤣🤣idk maybe..im gonna go the Gracie Academy and try this..i mean i do judo and i can already tell it won't work in that environment but maybe more success in bjj 🤣
Vraiment intéressant, cela génère une meilleure compréhension et une fluidité dans les gestes.
I do judo but i think this video can be beneficial to judo
Very interesting
So easy and simple way to leave the place and move on another point Thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you, guys for sharing this knowledge!
Very nice concept and view. Nice upload. Thank you. There is lots of great feed back with no constructive criticism. So here goes, a mistake I know but!! Using 7:15 to 7:27 struggle as an example, apply this info. E.g. cut all the way down, boken-cut, before stepping, tenkan. If you don’t make a full cut then take Uke’s centre before moving/stepping- tenkan. This is how you will be able use the vertical body weight to pin Uke. Stay/working centre to centre. There is “no way” this is centre to centre, any high grade can see this to be true. Use the cut as a cut not a handle. What is the difference between a cut and a handle? Face the direction that you are/will be going. I know you may not/don’t care but who cares - it can help some others aikido students to understand that Aidido does not need to be a struggle, a free flowing Aikido is possible. Many thanks. There are 5 important points/Aikido principles here.
Nice workout.
Yoga with The Jo Staff.
Been working the Jo for 20 years. My favorite weapon training. I’ve been doing these stretches that long. Great tool. My Jo is a 5.5 ft 3/4 inch closet pole. I ordered a Jo online. Feels like a twig compared to my closet pole.🤣🤣🤣Merry Christmas Sensei. Live your details of the Principles of Aiki. Oss.
The slight subtleties of Aikido. Why so many miss understand the art completely.
MartialArts can be used as therapy by many moves and exercises. I myself was recoverd from a pain in my knee by starting practising material arts exercises like stretching ones. Thanks again! Have a great day and life!
I feel that this is so helpful to relieve pain over this whole area [the shoulder, the neck and the backbone, too] Thank you very much! I'm so glad and lucky to find your channel and get so many wonderful and useful tips and ideas to add and develop and to use in many situations, too. Martial arts are life and greetings from Egypt!👊🔥🇪🇬🇪🇬
Amazing skills need to be really good trained for and practised!👊🔥🇪🇬🇪🇬
That's really so amazing and full of useful advanced skills especially when to add 'speed'.👊🔥🇪🇬🇪🇬
You really want to see how Aikido really works. Use it in a Mosh Pit in a Metal Concert. Just become. The spinning top.
This is where training. And presence meets.
The most important aspect of Aikido. I train in my bedroom. No space at all. No more then a 6' x 3' space. And I'm finding the foot work. I made some mistakes in my youth . A fellow inmate who trained same style did. Would spar in a very small space. Surrounded by steel bar. Where I learned yo be small. .
This is the strength of Aikido. Moving offline of the attack. I spend a lot of time, moving in the Octagon. 8 directional line of movement. Left side right side equals 16 different line of movement. What one does on the right. One must do on the left. OSS!
It's good if this will be tested to someone who practiced BJJ, Judo and Wrestling.
IKIDO
this smile though...
very good
This unique persepctive clears up so many things! Thank you!
Why do you make an "instructive" video if you are going to obscure the explanations with music?
Except for one, all black belts I have meet, when "teaching" a movement, they just show it once or twice, at normal speed, no verbal explanation, no step by step... and this video follows the same style. Why is that? Why do they "teach" like they actually don't want beginners learns? Genuine question (and sorry for bad English).
I wish their was a voiceover narrator explaining what is happening because I am completely lost. I instinctively see what is happening but a narration would enhance this tutorial.
you got it, you can learn this practicing with the job. Excellent video, very well expained it
It looks nice, nice dynamics, but most attacks would do nothing to the opponent even if he didn't move.
pretty useless
actually it's good. This is how sparring supposed to looks like
Cool sparring , although for more security i would suggest use fencing masks or something like that

kinda dissagree with the throw. swords touching the guard (or rather right hand) when he throws. very sketchy movement with a high risk of failure and losing a hand... as exploration sure, but itd be valuable to look at ways of controling the blade better before looking to throw? just my 2 cents
I haven’t seen sensei price in years, it’s nice to see him even though it’s not in person.
this just aint gonna work my guy watch arm wrestling tutorials they would literally break your wrist even with your "neutralization" and that arm bar is not something you're gonna get in real life buddy.
it is great video training. i think first of all in aikido training of foot movements is the first thing. Because it must not stay in front of the uke, it must be far away from the angle of uke.
